Josh Johnson flirts with a no-hitter

December 7, 2012 (Detroit, MI): In just his 2nd start of the season, Josh Johnson proved why the Detroit Tigers made him their 1st round draft choice, flirting with a no-hitter against the Kansas City Royals.

A Royals baserunner reached in the 1st inning via an error, and Johnson walked one in the 2nd inning, but then proceeded to retire 20 consecutive batters in a row.

With the Comerica Park cheering wildly in their bulky early season attire, Johson opened the 9th inning by retiring Royals second basemen Aaron Miles. Up stepped young Royals third baseman Yamaico Navarro batting in the 9th spot with a .167 average. Navarro proceeded to slap an opposite field groundball through the right side of the infield and ended Johnson's attempt to get in the record books. Reliever Sergio Santos came in and induced the last batter to hit into a double-play to preserve a 1-0 Tiger victory.
